The fight for motherhood in the world of soccer |
Description |
The 2023 Women’s World Cup was reportedly expected to attract over two billion viewers. But the huge interest in the tournament came against the backdrop of concerns over the treatment of women soccer players. More than 90% of female players consider leaving the game early, with the issue of starting a family and job insecurity some of the reasons given. Li-Lian Ahlskog Hou explores the issue in a distinctive video report, interviewing two soccer stars, notably Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir who wasn’t paid her salary during her maternity leave at former club Lyon, and others who are fighting to make motherhood and a career at the top level of sport possible. |
