Description
Transportista, Who Murdered Captain Coral? is a 10-episode historical investigative and true crime series told in both English and Spanish (episodes range from 25-50 minutes) Beto Coral, a son of the armed conflict in Colombia, tells how the peace period in his home and country following Pablo Escobar’s death never occurred. Beto’s father and hero, Captain Humberto Coral, was assassinated 4 months after having led the Search Bloc against Pablo Escobar in December 1993. Afterwards, Captain Coral went back to Medellin, but life was not the same. He had growing suspicions for his safety. Captain Coral requested a transfer, but before he could leave, he was murdered in a strange assault. Beto was 8 years old when he lost his father. That would be the first of a series of tragedies, scoldings, duels and absences. As a teenager, Beto embarked on an obsessive investigation to uncover who killed his father, and the reasons behind his murder. This podcast follows his long journey over almost 30 years to discover the truth. The story of his father unravels painful truths, and brings into the light his own country’s government obsession with hiding inconvenient truths about historical wrongdoings. Our series reveals the twists and turns as a result of lawlessness and negligence… and how these factors converged to tear one family apart. His obsessive search to find the truth led him to point fingers to those he thought were the guilty parties. Once Beto unveils the truth his own life was threatened, and he was forced to flee his hometown for the United States. He has been living in exile ever since. Transportista: Who Murdered Captain Coral? could be one more tragedy in the midst of the Colombian Armed Conflict, but it sheds necessary light on the past and present criminal, police, and corrupt political networks mixed in the Search Bloc in charge of ending Pablo Escobar’s reign of terror. We started Transportista as a limited-run series with our terrific partners at iHeartMedia. Our goal was to test a bilingual podcast. Our working theory was that Spanish listeners would want slightly different storytelling than English listeners - and so our episodes are not exact translations - they are adaptations. Our Season 2 leads Spanish - with original reporting in Colombia, Mexico, and Miami. And we adapted our English episodes accordingly. To our delight, Transportista is part of a successful and unique bilingual historical anthology series. It’s a perfect case study for language adaptation and Exile’s abilities as a mutli-cutlural transnational team with colleagues across continents and time zones. Transportista: Who Murdered Captain Coral? tells a story of suffering, but also one of hope. It shows to our audience the truth behind one of the longest (and still ongoing) wars of our time --the Colombian Armed Conflict. The story of Beto Coral and the murder of his father, Captain Humberto Coral, is one story among many, yet it reveals much more: a story about corruption, state negligence, official lies and treason... and also how one orphaned child became a detective to uncover the truth behind a mystery that changed his life forever. This podcast, published both in English and Spanish, uses investigative journalism tools to uncover the truth behind a real life murder of one of the most prominent police officers in his country: Colombia. We tell the story of a family shattered by corruption, and how a brave and honest child grew up to become an improvised detective. Transportista: Who Murdered Captain Coral? could be a story among many, yet its multiple-layered characters and compelling sound design make this a podcast you simply cannot put down, while also learning about the history of a forgotten conflict. We have more than 700,000 listeners, in more than 25 countries; predominantly in the USA and Mexico; since its initial airing, the show has continuously charted in top 50 podcasts across more than 20+ countries, with highs of #75 in Britain, #66 in Spain, and #12 in Mexico in the category of Documentary.
